Diary of the revolution13.10.07 Hello swampmetalheads! Two years has passed but as we promised there is more to come and now it is about time. Today we started the recordings of our fifth full length album. We started to work on new material almost two years ago and since we do not want to hurry it took the time to put every piece of the puzzle together. We have had great time to work with the new material as always. We did a demo a month ago to prepare ourselves for this main session. The demo worked out well and we are very confident about the new material. There is 9 new swamp metal songs to record. 17.10.07 Upa-upa! After searching the good base sound for drums and right places for mics Kuisma started beating the drums on Saturday. We continued on Sunday and everything was recorded by the end of the day. Right now we have drums and demo guitars on track. Demo guitars will be removed as soon as the real shread takes place. 22.10.07 Rhythm guitars Like always we had to test every possible combination of cabinets, pedals and mics to set up the rhythm guitar sound. At the end the tests fail as usual and the basic "good-proven" combination is the best. Nevertheless it is always worth to try. After we found the sound Pekka started to work on his rhytmn guitars and worked pretty fast as usual. 24.10.07 Rhythm guitars part 2Sound for my guitar was found yesterday so today I just had to record my parts. And so I did. There was no problems recording and the rhythm guitars with drums sounds pretty good to me as it should be. We are heading towards the most heaviest and riff-filled Kalmah album yet. Tomorrow I start to record the melodies and possibly solos as well if there is time at the end of the day. 26.10.07 Melodies and solosRhythm guitars recorded, melodies recorded and some of the solos recorded. I`m very satisified with the result so far. Sound kicks ass even though it is pure sound and the songs, of course, sound good. Yesterday I recorded all the melodies and some of the solos. Now we have a month break and we continue with bass, keyboard, vocals and rest of the solos in December. Mixing will take place in January. During the pause we will concentrate on the shows here in Finland at the beginning of December. As for now this would be all. Diary continues the story in the middle of December. 19.12.07 Back in businessWe had a month break as you may have noticed. Meanwhile we had to chance to listen carefully recorded guitars and drums which was good. We have always recorded albums within continuous period. I found this way better because there is time to get used to the sound and maybe fix something or add something if desired. 22.12.07 Recordings readyEverything is now recorded and we will start mixing at the beginning of 08. I guess it will take 1-2 weeks to get all done. This album will be guitar driven, raw sounding, more riff-oriented but melodic as Kalmah album always is. The band is very pleased with the result and I guess we are doing the best album so far. I know it is a cliche to say so, but I believe we are damn right about it! 11.1.08 MixingAfter holidays the mixing has started and we are pretty far at this point. The main sound has been set for almost every song. I feel pretty damn pleased at this point. The sound is just amazing! Now at weekend we listen to the result and figure out the rest ot the details to be added. End of next week the album will be ready for mastering. We will release the album title and the song titles in the near future as well, so, keep your palms sweating. 22.1.08 Mixing endedMixing is now done and album is ready for mastering. All in all the process was painless as usual. We recorded 3-4 weeks and mixed 1-2 weeks. Thanks for Ahti and Tico-Tico again! He did a great job as always. We are now figuring out the mastering place and right now we are heading for Sweden but nothing is confirmed. |
